Gareth’s musical experience began at the age of 8 when his aunt Doris offered him a chance to play the trumpet so he wouldn’t have to go with his mother when she worked as she thought it was not suitable for a child. He gave up the trumpet (having to deal with a strict teacher) and started learning the piano. After grade 5 he put aside music to focus on acting.

His first acting role was as a robot in a junior school play. As a teenager, Gareth joined the Gwent Young People’s Theatre in Abergavenny, appearing in several plays including Macbeth and Henry V, in the title roles. The former Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock saw him performing at Monmouth Castle, and then he sent him 250 pounds to use towards his acting career.

Whilst studying at Coleg Gwent, Crosskeys, he appeared in various local stage productions at the Dolman Theatre in Newport and the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff. He went on to train at the National Youth Theatre, before moving to Reading to pursue his acting career with The Rep College.

In college while still pursuing acting he met AnthonyClark and Nick Harrison. Whom he performed a couple of covers with. 6 years later after James Marsters asked him to open for his show, he asked Clark, Harrison and Rhys Brian to help and they created Blue Gillespie.
